L-Glutamine and faster recovery from muscle damage

Juvi · April 01, 2026

A double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study in 12 professional basketball players gave oral L-glutamine for 20 days during a high-demand season of twice-daily training.

Less muscle damage. Glutamine significantly lowered creatine kinase and myoglobin, two established blood markers of exercise-induced muscle damage, versus placebo.

A calmer stress profile. ACTH dropped, cortisol stayed stable rather than climbing, and testosterone was maintained, a less catabolic, more recovery-friendly state.

Honest dose note: this used 6 g/day, about double Flora's 3.15 g. Whether 3.15 g/day gives the same effect hasn't been tested in a published trial.
